Letter from M.A. Inge to her grandson Ralph [W.R. Inge], written from Nether Stowe.
They all wished him a very happy day tomorrow. what would he do? She wishes Uncle Jack were with him. He has fixed for 21 June. He has been playing cricket and keeping up the credit of the family. Next Monday he goes to Norfolk with Uncle Karl and Aunt Hettie and baby. Yesterday was the baby's birthday. She and Aunt Annie had taken him an Indian rubber ball and a stuffed bird. She and Aunt Annie were going to London on 16th and stay until 21st. There would be much to see, pictures at Bethnal Green, the Dore gallery and the two pictures there - one Christ leaving the Praetorium 30 feet long and figures all life size. Uncle John and the cousins were to meet them there and they were to choose a Harmonium and a Bashel Carriage but they would grudge every bit of time spent on shopping.
On 21st they were to go to Mrs Walham till 24th. On 26th was the first Lichfield archery. Aunt Annie must try and keep the Challenge Quiver but a very formidable opponent Mrs Colin Nots had just been elected a member. Did he do any on Whit Monday? At Lichfield there is an annual procession with men in armour and a presentation of the posies. Yesterday a deaf and dumb man brought his for them to see - a house with parlour and kitchen, a lady, a housemaid, a sweep going up a chimney, others appearing at the top with their brushes. The man had been making them for 32 years.
