Note
In 1975 there were three major European summits that shaped the continent's political, economic, and security architecture:
- the establishment of the European Council
- the Helsinki Accords
- the NATO Brussels summit
The European Council (March 1975)
The European Council was created to formalise the occasional summits of European Communities (EEC) leaders into a regular institutional body. It's first official meeting took place in Dublin which gave heads of state and government chance to meet and give political momentum and strategic direction to the European project.
