Biographical history

Educated at Clare Hall/College; Fellow of Clare. From 1618 to 1624 he was director to the affairs of the Virginia Company. Ferrar was ordained as a deacon in 1626 and founded the small Anglican community of Little Gidding, Huntingdonshire, shortly after his mother Mary Ferrar purchased the land there in 1624.

      Part of a set of seven Petitiones based on the Lord's Prayer, entitled: VII Petitiones Orationis Dominicae Correspondentes Ad [..]I Sacramenta XPI [CHRISTI] Eccl[esi]ae Nec Non Ad VII. Virtutes.
      In the centre of each print is an angel with words from the Lord's Prayer above his head. The background shows small scenes from the Bible. Flanking the angel are two slabs bearing text from the Bible.
