Note
Mallory served with a man called Glen in the 40th Siege Battery at the Battle of the Somme. The letter is undated but La Maisonette was where the third German line was and this was attacked at the Battle of Albert (1–13 July 1916). This is the British name for the first two weeks of British–French offensive operations of the Battle of the Somme.
