War Memorial First World War

Designed in 1920 by Alexander Fisher and adorned with armorial shields in enamel. It is affixed under the south-east window. On 11 November 1923 there was a Dedication Service attended by Lord and Lady Braybrooke (Visitor) and the dedication was performed by the Bishop of Ely, Dr Chase (this was the first time a Bishop of Ely had ever visited the Chapel). It bears the names and regiments of the 65 men who died.

War Memorial Second World War

Designed by Mr A. Reynolds Stone (an old member of the College) and executed by Will Carter. The names are carved in seven columns, on Abergavenny Blue slate, set in a plain frame of Caen. The College arms are in the centre. The Latin inscription was suggested by Mr A.B. Ramsay. It is affixed under the north-east window. Iy was unveiled and dedicated on Remembrance Sunday, 6 November 1949. It bears the names of 129 men who died.

Printed booklet about the service of dedication of the War Memorial to those members of College who died serving during the First World War. It was held in the College Chapel on 11 November 1923 and was conducted by the Bishop of Ely. The booklet describes the memorial, the service, and contains a list of the men who died and their regiments.

List of organ scholars, music scholars, and exhibitioners, 1908-2000. This list was prepared for a plaque to be placed in the organ loft near the new organ. In addition to the list is correspondence about the difficulties in researching the names of the organ scholars and the fact that there are some admissions because of this. Additional list of the organ scholars appointed in 2001 and 2003.

'Magdalene College Chapel Organ An Assessment' by Paul Hale (Organ Consultant) and related correspondence.

The Chapel dates from the 15th century and its oak roof (c.1470-72) is fully exposed.

In the 17th century a flat ceiling was put in and at the same time the stained glass was removed (due to the Puritan fervour of William Dowsing).

From 1733 for a period of about 20 years the Chapel was converted into a classical 'preaching box', with the east window bricked up and replaced by a reredos.

Between 1847 and 1851 the Chapel was re-gothicised by John Buckler. The reredos was removed but the 1755 floor was retained. In the sanctuary, four niches with the remains of richly decorated canopies were re-exposed and restored.

In 1850 the east window, designed by A.W. Pugin, was put in. Five of the other six windows were also made by the Birmingham firm Hardman between 1854 and 1880.

The Chapel entrance passage was panelled at the instigation of by A.C. Benson (Master) using 18th century Corinthian oak pilasters on pedestals.

The altar was designed by Sir Ninian Comper in 1910.

The War Memorial was designed by Reynolds Stone and executed by Will Carter on Aberllefeni slate.

The 19th century Coptic Cross was presented to the College in 1972.

The organ was built in 2000 by Goetze and Gwynn.

The albums contain engraved portraits, autographs and correspondence of notable individuals chiefly from the United Kingdom, Belgium and France, but other countries are also represented. The vast majority of these items are from the 19th century, with an engraved portrait of the individual on the verso of the album page and a corresponding autograph/letter from that individual to Sylvain Van de Weyer or Elizabeth Van de Weyer on the recto of the album page. There is also a small grouping of older items relating to French historical figures.
Many of the items are undated, therefore the date range of the collection is taken from items which can be dated to a specific year.

Historically known as the Foundation or Fellows' Library, it was housed in the Chapel roof until 1733 (gathering mould).
It was then moved to A2 First Court.

After the completion of the Master's Lodge in 1835, the Library was rehoused (1847-50) in what had been the Master's dining and drawing rooms, with access from the Chapel Staircase.

In 1927 an annexe was added to form a reading room.

In 1964 part of the ceiling collapsed and it was rebuilt in 1966. The Parlour was formed out of the inner room.
