Whilst in the planning and building phases Buckingham Court was referred to as 'new Tan Yard' or 'the carpark redevelopment'.

Buckingham Court J & K staircases (the old Tan Yard Cottages) were converted to student rooms (eight sets) in 1969.

Buckingham Court A-H is a purpose built red brick range built between 1968 and 1970 and was designed by Roberts.
It consists of a large covered ground floor carpark with single or double storey blocks above.
The flat roof was replaced with a pitched one in 1991-92.

Former undergraduate library

The 1835 Master's Lodge which was designed by John Buckler was pulled down in 1966 and a new Master's Lodge was built in its place. It was designed by David Roberts and built between 1966-67. In 1979 the flat roof was replaced with a pitched roof.

Among the missing cards for 1980-81 is that listing Miss Ruth Etchell as preacher. She was the first female preacher in Chapel, Principal of St John’s College Durham, recommended by Sir Derman Christopherson.
