'Notes on Colour' is an exhibition which brings together the work of three contemporary artists, Vicken Parsons, Jeff McMillan and David Batchelor, for whom colour has been an abiding preoccupation over many years.

The file consists of:
(1) Invitation to 'Artists in Conversation' and private view (electronic)

(2) Three versions of the exhibition poster

Alumni magazine. Includes an article 'Maintenance at Magdalene: A Glimpse into the Past' by Eva Norton (Library Graduate Trainee) about the audit receipts cataloguing project and the receipts of the carpenter William Stanley and painter John Favell.

The book was presented to the M.B.C. by Mr Smithe in 1836. A manuscript addition on the title page reads ' Received this book without any entries made therein May 26 1839. F. C. Penrose'.

The first page shows hand drawn coloured symbols representing: First Crew, Captain of the First Crew, Steerer of the First Crew, Secretary, Captain of Cannibal Crew, Cannibal Crew, the Shield of the First Crew, and the Shield of the Cannibal Crew. There follows a list of crews from 1835 to 1851 with symbols hand drawn next to their names.

The book then contains:
Laws of the M.C.B. as revised 26 October 1839.
Regulations and Ordinances of the M. B. C. not included in the printed rules, Dec 1839.
A retrospective account by F. C. Penrose of University rowing between 1825 and 1839.
Accounts of decisions of meetings, lists of Colleges taking part in races, the order of starting, and reports including results of the races.

Blue exercise book containing a memoir of her life between 1877 and 1916. This covers her childhood, family, training as a kindergarden nurse, the month she spent with Rudyard Kipling and his wife Carrie looking after their children during their trip to South Africa, and her subsequent career looking after Dorothy, the daughter of Sir Robert Hudson, and becoming Matron in a rest home for Army nurses and sisters in Monte Carlo in 1916. The last page ends "New book" but no further books have survived.

According to a note in an album of these photos in the Poyser Collection [MCPP/WPP] the photographs were taken by Geoffrey Madan during the summer of 1925 after the death of A.C. Benson before anything had been disturbed. Benson's manservant Jesse Harding helped whilst the photographs were being taken.
It was thought they would appear in Country Life but they didn't.

29 loose colour photographs of the restoration work on 30-31 Thompson's Lane, Cambridge, and one black and white photograph c. 1960s. Also negatives for the colour photographs.

Enlarged and autographed black and white photograph of the statuette of King Henry VI by Ernest Gillick (1940). It was affixed in the Chapel Staircase entry in 1950 through the generosity of the late A.B. Ramsay (Master), Mr W.F.L. Nuttall, and Mrs Gillick (the sculptor's widow). It depicts Henry VI with Letters Patent to the Abbot of Croyland to establish the Monk's Hostel, 1428.
