(1) Letter from Penrose to the Master enclosing a sketch of suggested new buildings on the site of Old Lodge. In the letter Penrose says this is a sketch of his idea of the appearance of the buildings and not a detailed plan of the layout of the interiors and he hopes it would suffice for now

(1) Letter from Penrose to Mynors Bright saying he had just managed to finish the rough plans by the end of May as promised and he was sending his report to the Master and Fellows. He asks Bright to emphasise that the drawings are rough due to the pressure on his time, 30 May 1872

(2) Report to the Master and Fellows outlining his idea for a new building to link First Court with the Pepys Building and explaining how many sets would be available, or it could be used for the College library and Pepys library, and it would have a basement with room for kitchen offices, 30 May 1872

Penrose removed the stucco (1750) and battlements on these exterior elevations.

The joints in his brickwork on the street front were re-cut and re-pointed by S.E. Dykes Bower in 1963-65, but the brickwork in the north gable end remained much as Penrose had left it.

Penrose also laid out River Court garden after the demolition of three rows of cottages.
