Note
Notes about terms used in the Admissions Registers:
Pensioner - an ordinary fee paying student
Sizar - a student who was in receipt of a small allowance from
the College to meet his expenses
Previous Examination - this was the first exam necessary to be registered for a degree course at the University (Matriculation). Exemption was often obtained through examinations taken at school (School Certificate etc). Knowledge of Latin was required until 1961. Colloquially the Previous Examination was known as Little-go.
Preliminary Examination - the first public examination, usually taken at the end of the first year.
Allowed Strike - not penalised for absence from College if helping to run public services during the general strike of 1926.
